Colon Colon cancer is a slow developing disease, with almost all cancers developing from slow-growing polyps over many years. Detection and removal of these polyps means that colon cancer is essentially preventable. Unfortunately, many cancers are detected at a very late stage when cure is difficult, and results in more than 20 000 deaths every year.

More than 30 000 people are diagnosed with colon cancer annually, making it the 2nd most prevalent cancer in the UK.
