Aorta
Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a ‘ballooning’ of the main artery, the aorta, in the abdomen and is a common condition particularly in older men. Aneurysms (‘ballooning’) often develop unnoticed, until they rupture and bleed with catastrophic consequences.
Ruptured AAA occurs in about 1-3% of men over the age of 65 as well as younger men with a close male relative who has had an aneurysm. A simple non-invasive abdominal scan can assess the state of the aorta within minutes. Am I at risk? Click on any of the below if they apply to you:
